The Taxonomy of SAFe
In the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), the Agile Release Train(ART) is a long-lived piece of work, usually around 12 months, focused on one or more value streams.
The ART is delivered in Program Increments (PI). PIs provide a development timebox (often 12 weeks) to facilitate planning and ultimately delivery of a piece of work (one or more work items).
PI’s are broken into sprints, usually about 5 of them. Each lasting 2 weeks & delivering certain backlogged features.
The Implementation Plan (aka Deployment Plan) is responsible for controlling deployment day activity. Implementation plan are usually driven at Sprint and/or PI Level.
Deployment Tasks may be a mix of manual tasks, automated tasks or hybrid. These ultimately resulted in the Release Unit being deployed to the Production Environment.
The Taxonomy of ERM
In ERM (Enterprise Release Management), the Enterprise Release Master Plan (schedule) is responsible for aligning your participant projects. Cadence is controlled by primary Milestones & Gates. Typically, 6-12 weeks.
Projects, working in parallel, track themselves to this schedule and hopefully each team has a similar cadence and finishing time.

Holistic TDM
A framework that describes the broader needs of Test Data Management (TDM). There is a lot more to TDM than simply Extract, Transform & Load (ETL) and you need to consider the data consumers as much as those doing the provisioning. In a nutshell you should be creating Test Data Management frameworks that support Requirements, Data Profiling, Data Masking, Data Fabrication, Data Provisioning, Data Mining, Reservation and of course Status Accounting & Compliance Reporting.
Sea of Data, Mountains of Risk
Ever wondered how important PII Data Compliance really is. Well here are four key statistics to get you thinking. (1) 70% of Security breaches are internal. So make sure you secure that test data. (2) 65% of breaches are estimated to be undetected. (3) 12% is estimated loss of brand damage. So for any fortune 500 company that is at least a few billion. (4) 4% of Revenue, the cost of a Data breach according to GDPR regulations.
